Dr. Valerie Saxton, PSY.D.
I believe that every individual has the wisdom to know how to heal themselves and the courage to face life’s challenges and grow from them. It is my job, as a therapist, to help you connect with this innate wisdom and courage. In therapy, I work to create a space where you can feel safe, understood, and cared for. Within this space, we will explore your current difficulties and challenges. We will address these challenges in ways that fit you and that build upon your unique strengths and personality.
My therapeutic style is integrative, which allows me to tailor therapy specifically to your needs. I draw primarily upon Relational, Emotion-Focused, Family Systems, and Mindfulness-and-Compassion-Based approaches. I also have training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. This means that our work will likely address your feelings and thoughts – about yourself and the people in your life – as well as your actions.
My areas of specialization include depression, anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders, self-criticism, self-injury, couples therapy, sexual identity, and spirituality.
I received my doctorate in Psychology from LaSalle University. I have worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, an intensive eating disorder treatment program, and college counseling centers.
