I have been working primarily with children and adolescents for over 10 years. I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from Boston University in 1996 and my Masters degree from Simmons College School of Social Work in 1999. During the school day, I act as primary School Social Worker in an elementary school for children classified as learning disabled and/or emotionally/behaviorally challenged. I provide individual, group and case management services to children, in addition to actively participating in all of my students' Individualized Educational Plans. I appreciate the importance of collaborating with everyone involved in the child's life and welcome ongoing communication in order to help the child succeed.
I take great pride in my ability to connect with children. I have provided individual, group, and family therapy in both school settings as well as private practice settings since the onset of my career. I utilize behavioral management tools, cognitive behavioral therapy, and creative therapies (art, music and drama) to encourage, empower and teach children how to increase their sense of self and learn how to celebrate their strengths and weaknesses. I am creative in how I invite children to express themselves while in groups and I feel strongly that children respond best when they are free to explore their feelings creatively as opposed to solely participating in talk therapy.
